!!!Background and Objectives
In line with the requirements of ?Basel II? for Operational Risk, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision also expects that e-banking risks will be recognized, addressed and managed by banks in a prudent manner according to the basic characteristics and challenges of e-banking services. While not entirely new, the basic characteristics of e-banking increases and modifies some of the traditional risks associated with banking activities. These characteristics include the unique speed of change related to technological and customer service innovation, the ever-present and global nature of open electronic networks, the integration of e-banking applications with legacy computer systems and the increasing dependence of banks on third parties that provide the necessary information technology. These characteristics specifically affect the strategic, operational, legal and reputational risk profiles of banks.
This one-day course is aimed as a primer for Operational Risk management in an e-banking environment. Participation is dependant on a clear understating of the Basel II Operational Risk Management requirements as well as an understanding of basic Operational Risk Management Principles.
